Heritage Taranaki was established in 2013 following the dissolution of the former Taranaki regional branch of the New Zealand Historic Places Trust. We are recognised as an authoritative advocate for the conservation of built heritage, historic places, and archaeological sites and landscapes throughout Taranaki.
Our heritage advocacy work is diverse and includes many activities such as: coordinating the annual Taranaki Heritage Month (October-November); development of the Taranaki Wars phone app; contributing to heritage policy development at local/regional and central government levels; organising public and member events such as historical walks and field trips; and supporting public and private organisations and individuals to conserve Taranaki heritage sites and features, amongst many others.
We have established relationships with iwi, hapū, local authorities, community organisations, heritage professionals, and others across Taranaki and wider Aotearoa New Zealand including Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga. We are a member of Historic Places Aotearoa (HPA), an independent non-governmental organisation representing heritage nationally.
Heritage Taranaki welcomes members of the public and organisations to join our membership to help support our aims. Donations and bequests are administered wisely and make a real difference to protecting Taranaki’s rich and diverse heritage for future generations. Heritage Taranaki Incorporated is a registered charity, No. CC50454.
