Title: Science in Heritage Conservation (Demonstration) – 4 May, 2018

The conservation of historic, artistic and archaeological materials involves history, chemistry and the visual arts. Join us to learn about how we identify different material types and see science in action on real historic objects! Demonstrations will be continuous so bring the kids (or just your sense of curiosity) and help us figure out a mystery object or two.

Venue: Mount Egmont Alpine Club Rooms, Hawera

Directions/Parking: Free parking is available at the TSB Hub. Enter from Waihi Road next to the Hawera Holiday Park. The Alpine club building is marked with a white sign and is located on the right side of the parking lot directly across from the TSB Hub.

Title: Oh the Places You’ll Go! Adventures in Archaeological Conservation (Presentation) – 4 May 2018

Come learn about the variety of archaeological objects that conservators work to preserve in museums and on site. From Antarctica to the United States and everything in between, join us for an international journey of shipwrecks, desert oases and frozen continents. Touch and see some of the unique historic objects collected along the way! This event is suitable for all ages and accessibility levels.

Walking field trip around some of South Taranaki’s iconic archaeological sites, taking in a range of fortifications ranging from prehistoric Maori archaeological pa to conflict sites of Taranaki Wars.
