Description
Aotearoa New Zealand native tōtara (Podocarpus totara).
A tall NZ endemic conifer commonly growing to about 30m. Fantastic for regeneration projects or as a large specimen tree. Can also be used for hedging and tolerates pruning.
It has thick stringy bark and its leaves are a dark green-brownish colour. Attractive red arils produced on female trees during summer.
Historically the durable timber was used for house piles and fenceposts.
Current height approx 0.6m+ above PB3 planter bag.
These plants are grown locally in Ngāmotu New Plymouth and have been donated to Heritage Taranaki to help support our mission of conserving our region’s unique heritage.
